Meet Valerie Jacobsen
Valerie Jacobsen, Owner
PT, MS, CMYK
Valerie is the owner of Rebalance Physical Therapy in Bellingham, WA. Born and raised in Hawaii, Val began her first 16 years of physical therapy employment there, gaining experience in a hospital, home health, and outpatient clinics treating the young injured athlete to the debilitating elderly.
In 2006, Val, her husband, and three children moved to BC, Canada; in 2012, they settled in beautiful Bellingham, WA. While still in Canada, Val continued to hone her skills at Whatcom Physical Therapy in Point Roberts and Blaine. Over the years, despite taking many PT continuing education courses, Val felt her profession was missing a treatment link of helping people reduce or abolish their pain faster.
In 2015, Val awoke to neck stiffness with excruciating shoulder pain, limited motion, and weakness. The constant pain kept her up at night and prevented her from using her left arm during the day. Her tennis, running, and workouts were unthinkable. The traditional physical therapy treatments and modalities did not ease her constant pain. Then she remembered the course she took just before her pain, the Myokinesthetic System (MYK), given by Michael Uriarte, a Chiropractor. Val decided to self-treat herself using the new skills learned, and to her surprise, she slept well that night with significantly less pain! Eventually, the healing powers of the Myokinesthetic System got her quickly back to hitting tennis balls again. In 2016, Val became a certified practitioner in the MYK System.
In 2019 Val decided a change was needed. She noticed physical therapy care was declining due to the necessary cost-cutting measures taken by PT clinics to survive the offset of the declining insurance reimbursements. Not to mention the high insurance deductibles and copays people are now paying! In 2020, Val started Rebalance Physical Therapy, a direct-care service. No referral necessary, no “surprise super bills”, and best of all, specialized and unique care without compromises.
When Val is not working, she enjoys tennis, running in South hill and nearby trails, working out, Qi Gong, family time, and reading. If you spot her in Fairhaven, give her a shout, she loves meeting new people too!
